Meet Pam Dent
Pam Dent can almost be called a native of Charlottesville Virginia, having moved here in the second grade. Although her family did not have a farm and lived in one of Charlottesville’s wonderful neighborhoods, Pam was lucky to have the opportunity to grow up exploring the Virginia countryside from the back of a horse. This experience allowed her to learn first hand what a special gift it is to live in the heart of Virginia horse country. As a result Pam developed a passion for the preservation of our natural beauty – gently rolling hills, pastoral views, all set against the backdrop to the Blue Ridge Mountains – heaven!
In college Pam attended Miami University in Oxford Ohio where she studied art and earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree. Art and now photography have remained a love of Pam’s and influence how she sees the world but they did not become her career path. The photography is an important asset as Pam utilizes numerous photographs and her artist’s eye to effectively market your home.
At the end of college Pam came back to Virginia and the Albemarle County countryside she loved. Central Virginia is a wonderful place to raise a family and Pam was lucky to have the opportunity to raise two daughters in an Albemarle County country home surrounded by ponies and dogs, hiking and riding in the woods and through the fields as they developed a respect for the natural world. At the sametime they had the benefit of the excellent Albemarle County schools and exposure to the art, theatre and music with which the presence of the University of Virginia enriches the Charlottesville area.
For many years Pam trained and sold show hunters and jumpers as a business. Although she was based in Charlottesville, VA, Pam sold horses to buyers all over the United States. Out of state trainers would call Pam, give her some basic information such as what kind of horse their client was looking for, how well they rode and their price range. Then it would be up to Pam to search through available horses for sale in Virginia and the surrounding midAtlantic states. When she had found a good selection of horses to fit their particular needs, the clients would fly in to spend a day trying horses. By the time that the buyers got back on the plane in the evening, she usually had found a horse for them. Next Pam was responsible for submitting their offer, negotiating the price with the seller, setting up and overseeing the prepurchase veterinary exam, getting the horse paid for and finally arranging for the horse to ship to its new home. Sounds a lot like real estate doesn’t it?
So how does a professional in the horse business end up in real estate? Many people don’t know that when Pam Dent was in her twenties she had a real estate license and was the office manager for a local real estate company. However at that time her first love was the horses and she soon went on to a career training horses and running her own business, perfecting all of the skills that any entrepreneur needs. Then the day came when Pam felt that it was time to “hang up her spurs”. Going back to a career in real estate was an obvious choice. Like everything else she does Pam jumped in with both feet and became immersed in the real estate industry. With her usual work ethic, energy and tenacity, Pam embraced the challenges of the real estate market and built a thriving real estate business for herself.
